Two Libraries, Thousands of Books, Endless Possibility: Pepala’s First Chapter in Malawi
In just ten months, Pepala has turned surplus into significance. What began as a grassroots movement to rescue UK stationery and books from landfill has blossomed into something extraordinary: two brand-new libraries in Kwiputi and Nsanga primary schools in Malawi.
These are the first libraries these schools have ever had. Shelves once bare are now filled with stories, facts, and imagination—thanks to the generosity of UK donors and the tireless work of volunteers.
This is more than a delivery. It’s a declaration: every child deserves access to learning, and every unused book has the power to change a life.
From Surplus to Schoolbags: How BPMA Members Are Powering Pepala’s Mission
We are thrilled to announce our partnership with the British Promotional Merchandise Association (BPMA), launched on 6th August 2025. This collaboration unlocks a powerful opportunity for BPMA members to donate surplus or obsolete promotional items—pens, notebooks, drawstring bags, sports equipment, and more—directly to Pepala. Instead of landfill, these products will find a second life in Malawian classrooms, equipping young learners with the tools they need to dream, learn, and thrive.
“Pepala are thrilled to partner with the British Promotional Merchandise Association to amplify our mission of transforming surplus stock into opportunity,” says Amara Sharif, Founder and Executive Director of Pepala. “Together with BPMA members across the UK, we’re reducing waste and empowering children with dignity and purpose.” Phil Goodman, CEO of BPMA, adds, “This partnership is a responsible way for our industry to manage excess stock and extend the value of each product among communities that deeply appreciate our support.”
